Ashes of the Beloved: The Magnadex Experiment Arc
Episode Arc: Ashes of the Beloved – The Magnadex Experiment
Midnight hangs over Riku’s neighborhood. The alleys smell damp. Faint rain starts beating on the old clocktower, echoing with each tick. Riku, our main lead, hunches under its shadow. He stares at a ragged flyer, words scratched out except one phrase: “Do you wish to know why she changed?”
Did you ever think you could spot a friend in pain, even if they don’t ask for help? It’s been a year since Riku’s sister Ema vanished from daily life, appearing again as the empire’s ideal “success”: skilled, stoic, cold as the frost. Now seen at the academy, Ema refuses her old name. She answers only to “Specimen Delta.”
This arc starts with Riku’s search, but he’s not alone. His classmates—Tomo, who hides faint burn marks; Hal, who strolls with a bandaged hand; and Mei, withdrawn but fierce—immerse themselves in rumors swirling through lectures and late-night chat: dark walls deep beneath the city. Experiments might be more than photos in old handbooks.
That night, Riku corners “Specimen Delta” by the school quad. The cold tone rips right into him. “Speak again, and you’ll forget you even had blood,” she warns. Mei wonders, whispering, “Is that her soul talking? Or a script?”
Days go by. The group trails Delta to a tram, down dark tunnels, out beyond where lights flicker red. Mei hacks a magnetic lock near the old power station. All whisper: “Is this bravery, or just a dare?” Nervous? Even Hal admits, “Easy, man. My legs won’t stop shaking.” Coffee cans roll away as footsteps echo. With a heartbeat, automatic doors close behind.
Inside the hidden base, strange energy ripples in the air. Files marked “Magnadex” lie soaked in solvent on a table. They find sleeping pods—one empty, three occupied. Those left inside still have name tags, faded by sweat and years. Delta posts as guard. As she finishes her slipshod report by mic, she clocks her old friends glancing through gaps in an observation room.
Ema (“Delta”) finds them, voice split. “Why turn up, Riku? You look scared. This isn’t a fairy tale.” Riku ducks his head. “Is this what you wanted? Did they fix you?” In one short reply, she says, “You’re the variable, always.” Then alarms start blaring. Did someone pull a cord?
Crashing footsteps: lab guards catch Rem, the last lost “sample,” tangled by cables. Hal flips open a crate—there’s someone hardwired to wires, face blank, tongue bit through. Mei stuffs seared records in her coat: “Changing wounds to strength—at what cost?” Is this worth it? Who’s broken? Who’s the survivor now?
Breaking away, Riku dashes for Ema, hand outstretched. For an instant, she hesitates. He remembers one old game, when she smiled. Now her fingers pulse cold, chilling his palm, painfully slow. “The one you want to save isn’t here,” Delta cracks, then falls silent. Here’s the part we can’t look away from—is it harder to fight fate, or someone you love?
Rem bolts toward the generator core—more alarms flash, glass shatters. Mei yells, “We run!” Ema stands between freedom and friends, cold light blanketing her face. It’s unclear if she’s holding them back, or helping them out. Riku whispers, “Wait for me.” Then flames fill the tunnel. There’s only time to duck.
Data burned, memories split. The group escapes—barely alive. Riku finds what’s left of Ema’s locket in his coat, palm bleeding from unseen shards. In the thick smoke over the ruined lab, he calls her name. Only a distorted echo returns. Are they out? Did someone catch them? Or did they fall straight into a trap waiting below? Guess you’ll have to see what scorched secrets remain in the ash.
