Puppets on the Wires: Unveiling HEX Agency

Mina Kurisawa isn’t your average sophomore. She spends long nights at her desk, red-laced eyes searching news feeds, chat boards, and city records. Lately, strange reports fill the net: memory glitches, vanishing cats, sudden fear. No, Mina doesn’t see a pattern. Not yet. But numbers never lie—not in Nakasu City.

With her trusty laptop (name: ‘Sawyer’), Mina spends hours on HEXwatch, an anti-conspiracy board full of theory junkies. Her top chat pal? Sano, an oddball grad researcher who won’t log in unless his VPN pulses green. Got a circle like this online?

On her route home, Mina bumps into Niwa: tuition-cut hair, bag slung high, always eating seaweed snacks. “Did you check the water report?” Niwa says, voice low. Mina raises a brow. Niwa’s grin widens. “The park’s fish are gone! And that weird van with a blue logo was there again last night.”

That’s when Mina gets a late-night text: unknown number, single phrase. “Containment Breach – Under Station 8, 0130AM.” Mina’s not dumb, but temptation wins. Should she risk going?

Curiosity snaps the thread. Mina grabs her camera, duct tape, “Sawyer,” and sets off. The air gets heavy as she heads into the metro tunnels. At Station 8, she finds Niwa under a safety cone, crisps in hand. “Gotta have eyes everywhere,” she whispers. Then—faint electric hum, a service gate slides open, shadows streak out. Who moves like this at night? aicg-7186-img-2-6a30cbe794ec7.png

They follow the shadowy figures. Behind one door, they hear clipped voices—not Japanese, Mina thinks, and not quite machines either. Niwa’s eyes widen. They record as staccato words spill: “Phase III complete. Implants operational. Subjects stable.” Mina nudges Niwa. “Implants? Tests? This isn’t just about goldfish, is it?”

Sano pings them—he’s watching from across town, tracking city power spikes. “Location matches the rumored HEX Agency site. You’re onto something. My readings are spiking.” Power cuts ripple overhead. Both girls freeze as three men step out of the dark: suits, earpieces glowing dull blue. Mina even recognizes one as Chisato Tanemura—a war orphan turned Tokyo board member. Why’s she here, deep among pipes?

They panic. Footsteps fade. Then—a background thud, alarms whining, and sudden blackout. Slipping away, they dart into a side passage with a broken key lock and find corkboards, maps, stacks of vinyl tapes marked “AURA” in marker pen. Bank account charts paint arrows linking the HEX Agency, Nakasu city funds, public works, then cryptic connections to labs in Fukushima. Do you believe those web maps showing secret labs everywhere, or are conspiracy theorists all noise?

Mina’s hands sweat as she lifts the tape covers. One is labeled “Eyes Only: Lambsign Candidates.” They hear a creak. Niwa turns—Sano bursts in, wild-eyed, wearing an old mascot suit for disguise. “They scrambled Net nodes! You have two minutes!” Real nerves jangle. The girls grab printouts and for a wink, make contact with an unblinking, bug-eyed teen hidden behind stuffed animals: Marsa. She’s mute, but her gesture points to where the next key lies—in the city hydro electric vault.

Glancing behind, footsteps echo. A ghostlike AI voice (female, gentle) intones: “Visitor logs unauthorized. Permanent protocols engaged.” Mina’s heart hammers. Without warning, Sano moves in front, whispering: “They’ll find us by the Cobalt Reader. Knock that sensor off!” It looks like cheap kitchenware, yet he’s shaking. aicg-7186-img-3-6a30cc23b3470.png

Mina swings her taped phone at the sensor; plastic cracks, red light blinks out. Doors rattle. Security dog robots bound through, eyes blue and grown fangs. Mina screams, shoves three printouts in her shoes, hustles the little group around a pile of valve panels.

Sano slows. “HEX wants brain patterns,” he pants, “not rebels. They’ve sent failruns after kids like us since last winter.” His voice barely holds calm. “Your grandma ever mention Lord Yuri, Mina?” She nods. That old reverend who vanished with forty dossiers.

The team slips into a drainage shaft. Moonlight filters through. The city looks safe overhead, but they know nothing is the same. Mina scans scans her phone—IRC pings flood in. “Veil tightening,” one says. “HEX agents at all major terminals.”
They huddle under a mall awning. Wet papers clutched to bare knees, crack-faced phones ring: “Upload what you can before we lose all cells,” Sano urges. aicg-7186-img-4-6a30cc9b716fb.png

Mina barely manages two screenshots before all wifi signals choke. Marsa signs a single phrase, fingers moving quick: “Blue Sunday. Save files in morning.” The three stare up. Headlights move in close grid pattern, azimuth set on their roof. Did the city catch them? Mina presses record, last chance.

Suddenly Marsa tosses her key drive into Mina’s lap. Light blinks once. Fade to black. Viewers hear two lines, distorted over cello static: “Nexus offline. Host learning new sequence.”
How would you unravel this? If they escaped, how deep would you dig?

One thing’s sure: trust crumbles quick when eyes watch from unseen towers. Is it worth the risk—knowing what you know now?

If Mina’s story was yours, would you open that locked hydro vault? Or just log off and stay safe, pretending nothing strange moves at night?

To be continued… aicg-7186-img-5-6a30cc9d229c6.png
