Shadow Circuit: The Truth Whisperers

Prologue: The Odd Signal

It’s midnight in Neo-Yokohama. Akira Tsubasa sits hunched over a cracked laptop, his wild hair lit blue by the street outside. He pulls off his headphones, eyes wide.

“Did you hear that, Sora?” Akira asks. His friend Sora, a racer with a knack for hacking, squints at the screen.
“It’s the Institute again. Did the code change?”
“No… but there’s a voice. I swear. Listen.”

Would you spend your nights chasing eerie tapes, even if your friends thought you were cracked?

Meet the Group

Akira, age 17. Night owl, has a cheap hard drive full of old files. Sora’s his best mate, more grounded about rumors. They argue, but help each other. Makiko, president of the Comic Club, dreams of showing the truth on her radio show. She knows all the school legends. Finally, Sensei Hako—retired detective. Wears flip-flops to class. Guides the trio with dry jokes and ancient papers.

Sora stretches, not buying Akira’s hype. “If there’s a real conspiracy, there’d be news. Journalists love fear.” Akira shakes his head. “Fear’s noise, but cover-up’s silence.”
What kind of secrets would you risk it all for?

The Rabbit Hole

The code Akira found keeps changing every evening. Digging through old forums, they uncover a story: twenty years ago, a famous professor vanished after talking about Project Murmuration. The group decides to find out what he really found.
Makiko rolls a pen between her fingers. “If I can get access to the basement records, we can check his last tape.” Sora sighs. “You and your cloak-and-dagger…”

Would you break into your own school to search the forbidden archives?

Diving Deeper: Strange Symbols

They hide in cupboards, dodge janitors, and end up deep below, staring at unmarked boxes. A reel tape, marked only with a crow’s feather, clicks into the player. The recorded voice isn’t just code—it’s a confession. The professor talks about hidden experiments, memory erasure, and shadow groups inside the government. At one point, they hear him whisper: “Trust no one. Even truth loses shape here.”

Makiko leans close, shivering. “This wasn’t supposed to exist.” Sensei Hako warns, “For every curtain you lift, three more descend.” Later that night, their phones glitch, and Akira finds himself being followed by a van with no plates.

Ever had someone shadow you, just for poking around in the wrong place?

Rising Pressure

Sora hacks the city’s camera feed, finding strange edits covering the same black van tailing them for weeks. Makiko brings a news clipping with matching details to the coded tape. Akira draws all the echoed symbols on a wall—each one circles back to ‘the Committee’ and a crow. The best theories make you hope you’re wrong.

Sora bites at his thumb. “We play at being heroes, and they erase us. That’s the game.”
“Are you scared?” Makiko asks.
He nods, faint voice: “Of missing the truth more than I’m scared of those guys.”

The Unthinkable Lead

The team gets anonymous tips—blueprints burned at the city dump, photos of street graffiti matching the professor’s symbols, hints the Committee once wiped out an entire class. Akira’s notebook now brims with links no one wants to publish. Their home Wi-Fi keeps crashing. Sora’s little sister says men tried to give her a ride outside their home.

The adults stonewall when confronted. Even Sensei Hako acts uneasy, warning, “Careful. Thinking isn’t always safe.” The group debates next steps in hushed tones at a ramen shop, the sign flickering out in the rainy street.

Would you still seek answers, or vanish before being made into a footnote?

A Web of Theories

Makiko runs a pirate stream, sharing small finds under a codename. Fans drop anonymous rumors—MK Ultra spinoffs, an entire neighborhood that never appeared on maps, alleged fake history textbooks. Akira compares anonymous posts, seeking real threads. Sora slips into city servers, hitting dead ends or bizarre loops that always have a “keep out” sign covered in crows.

Sensei Hako admits once meeting the missing professor. The old detective pours sake into tea. “He said something about puppets. Said maybe they aren’t aware they’re held up.” The line shakes the group quiet. Did Makiko’s broadcast go too far?

The radio stream is hacked. A scrambled voice taunts: “Not every story is yours to tell.” A sharp click, then silence. Makiko’s laptop bursts into static, raining ghost code all over her blog.

What’s the weirdest warning you’ve ever received for just doing research?

The Halfway Mistake

The next week, orbs show up stuck around their homes—glowing graffiti no one else seems to notice. They alter emails. Bank accounts freeze. Three classmates accuse Akira of stealing test files, though he hasn’t even seen them before. Sora is banned from tech club for “violent hacking.” Their parents just get letters with nothing in them—wax seals marked again by a crow.

The conspiracy’s reach grows, obvious to the group if nobody else. Fun turns grim. Makiko vansihes one afternoon, her phone dead. Sensei Hako checks campus CCTV but only finds static over those hours. Akira slams his fist into the desk, turning a lighter over and over in his palm. “I’m not leaving this til she’s back.”

Turning Point: Not All Is Paranoia

Scraps of a map slip under Akira’s door—the handwriting is Makiko’s, matched to the ink on her lecture notes. A single crow’s mark. Must be a message or threat? Sora cracks it: the ciphers are coordinates, pointing to the central power plant.

Is the Committee everywhere, watching every move? Or are they few, hoping fear stops curious minds?

Face to Face

Akira and Sora dash through city backlots to the old plant, dodging security drones. There, Makiko is tied in an unused office; old tape loops burrow into her ears. She’s relieved but shaken. As they untie her, a figure steps out—masked, in plain jacket. “You really should mind what you search for.”

“Who are you?” Akira demands.
“Just another puppet—just like all of you.”

The man flickers away, lost in backup lights. But no one stops their search. Akira grabs the mask left on the chair. Inside, a chip stamped with the school crest and the crow’s symbol. The trio stare, out of clues but not out of questions.

Do puppet masters know they’re holding strings? Or is control another shared story, made up and passed along?

Cliffhanger: Anatomy of Denial

The next broadcast bridges gaps citywide. Static, then Akira’s voice: “If we make it, you’ll know how deep the story went.”
But as dusk falls, a long shadow steps over Sora’s doorstep. Back home, Sensei Hako finds a crow’s feather inside his wallet… Has someone closed in at last?
