It’s twilight in the heart of Eldoria, a fog-bound city built over bones. There’s beauty outside these walls, I swear it. Isolde Laar, sharp eyes and sharper mind, believes in it. She just doesn’t see it now. She’s dragging her battered boots through the black flower fields as scarlet rain starts. Who else is tired of waiting for light?
Behind her, Gil Van keeps pace. He’s all muscle, no nerves left. “Hey, what if we take a different road for once?” he grumbles, blows rain out of his beard. No answer. Above, a crow shrieks, vanishing when Isolde finally looks up.
The ground beneath their feet shakes. “You saw that?” Gil whispers. Petals ripple, like something old and hungry spread beneath the dirt. They pause, silent now, but it’s not over. Ever felt like the place itself is breathing in your steps?
Three more outcasts slide from the shadow: Adaine who doesn’t lift his own shadow when he moves, red glare sealing regret behind every word. Miri, child with a hard stare and nimble hands. Brother Sept, haunted by faith that hurts and old sermons that got twisted before they reached his tongue.
Isolde is the one who says it: “All the souls we lost in this garden must answer for something.” Sept looks away. Adaine watches Isolde’s fingers draw glyphs in wet dust. Are you guessing what glyphs whose shape you can’t recall might do? Does old magic in young hands ever end well?
The mission tonight: reach the knotted heart of the flower fields by sunrise, trade blood for safe passage, bar the Harrow Witch from her last gate. Easy work, she said – unless you’re afraid of roots deeper than dreams. Gil, of course, tells a bad joke now. Nervous laughter jumps from lip to lip.
The moon comes. Shadows sharpen. Petals bleed aroma so dense nobody breathes right. Miri reaches for Isolde’s hand, only to be stung by a ghost-white thorn. Adaine drops to a knee, glaring. “Hear that?” Miri asks. A murmur, distant, but growing stronger – it’s not human.
Roots crack the earth open before their feet. One coils toward Gil’s leg. He swings his axe down, missing the fleshy thing by an inch. Movement on both sides, but only Isolde looks ahead: the field’s heart is burning now, light caught under petals, twisting upwards like a scream stitched into the air. Fear taste of metal and hope smells false. Can you picture a place where doubt is the safest friend?
They talk strategy hushed, drawing shaky circles in sticky mud. Should they run or go on? Sept’s bright prayer glass glows faint. “Faith lasts until flesh fails,” he sighs. Isolde starts her slow march forward. She refuses to look back. 
The deeper they move, the more broken faces leer from flower-laden stalks. Adaine whispers, “Enough souls died here to raise an army.” Petals fold in, closing off the path behind them. There’s no going back.
A shriek from above splits the cloud. It’s the Harrow Witch herself – black cloaked, eyes draped in blossoms. Her voice cuts them flat: “Who comes to the feast, bringing nothing but debt and bones?” Each friend feels the dread ice down their spine. Miri squeaks, her voice like glass: “We brought ourselves.”
The Witch laughs. Flames darken her hands. Shadows twist thick enough to chalk around the group. “You seek the gate?” she hisses. “Then offer what’s true.”
Here the group changes. Adaine offers sorrow for sins unnamed. Miri gives trust. Gil gives blood, just a drop sliced by his own steel. Sept offers prayer, half hope, half lost. Isolde stays silent, head bent, fingers never stopping their dance in dust. She’s holding something unseen.
The Witch sees it. Black roots burst, aiming for Isolde’s heart, but she jumps aside, flicks a glyph from her palm. Light cracks out, driving the Witch’s coils into retreat. Cheating fate never wins fans in the dirt.
Only one question matters now. Will Isolde offer up the memory of why she fights – her lost sister’s voice, gold and sure as dawn – or cling to loss instead? Her rage is urgent, flooding cold, yet she swallows back the sob. Is there a way out without losing what’s left?
This final circle is the episode’s standstill. The Witch, unyielding. The group, battered but almost brave. Isolde, small now, whispers, “I want her back.” The ground splits. A sapphire light shows a shadow emerging from roots, face too familiar. Sister, or not-sister?
Cliffhanger: Isolde must choose comfort in illusion, or truth with pain. The field closes tight. A voice – it’s the sister’s, soft as the old stories, “Come home.” What choice would you make?
