Just past dark, Rina leads Kyo past crashed trains and crooked shops. Pulse rifles at the ready, footfalls hard. They slide, unseen, along the edge of Track 6B. Below, electric drones buzz and flash, eyes always turned outward. Rina stops: “They sniffed the bait. Time to split.” She pivots, pink hair wild, and runs for cover. Kyo chuckles. “Should’ve wore better boots.” Only two years fled, yet the banter hasn’t faded.
A shot bursts, skull-ringing near. Zan’s here, ground trembling with his step. Why now? Why not another outlaw, someone old, forgotten? No. He finds them every loop, every run, jaws set tight as locks. Five yards—less if you count shadow.
“Spread, Rina! I’ll draw north.” Kyo leaps down to meet Zan head-on, fists tight. When they clash, the air bends, lines of pure blue crackling down arms, part real, part neon dream.

Maybe, in this moonless night, it’s new mythos blooming beneath all the iron. You ever walked silent in a tunnel, no sound but breath and hate?
Zan isn’t alone. Nova-charged brutes step up now, armor humming with encoded power. Rina signals, flanking with short twin knives. “Tight together, Kyo!” she calls. “Don’t get clever!” He can’t risk Rina—the last person he’d leave unread, eyes always open. The plan has one shot. Kyo swipes Zan to open ground, willing his blue circuit energy to light another side route.
The fight tilts along slippery rails. Major Saito from Station Watch ducks behind boxes, recording, silent. No help coming. Who’d trust any in this gray new law? Saito’s report must go somewhere.
Kyo overloads, hands pulsing fire. Metal and mist squall where he lands. Zan sees, recognizes, rage shifting human features. “Stop! It’s not yours! It’s not meant for you!” Panic in Zan’s shout, first crack in the beast’s armor. Kyo shouts back: “Maybe not yours anymore.”
Bots swarm to mop-up what they can’t read. Rust and oil choke the spot. Kyo nearly goes down. Rina snaps him alert, eyes wild. Someone’s breaking through the far fence in silence. Not Watch. Not thugs from Dynamo. Two—each masked, blue gems in their masks. Each match the bounty data shown last night: “Eyrus Intel Division. Extraction squad.”
Kyo steps between. “Rina—Pulse mine?” She nods, clicks a disk out thin as a coin. Time squeezes between Kyo’s knuckles as the squad slides closer.
Blades drawn, energy humming. No time to weigh right from safe. Is this circus of gangs and company spooks anything but a machine eating them one by one? “Won’t they just keep sending more?” Rina asks, tossing the mine under the rails, eyes twisted with a question she doesn’t say.
Kyo’s side is splitting open, blue sparking spill from his skin, dyeing puddles faint color. The Intel men pause, settling linked drives. One speaks soft through mask—like a father might at midnight: “You’ve run a long time, Shindou. Don’t bleed for her trust. Give up, live useful.”
Lights swing wide. Traps close in tunnels left and right. Old friends watch from far, numbers unseen, plotting cards as though they matter. The city’s heart hammers.
Kyo holds the chip, its signal fighting for release. Rina glances once, promises, “You run, you live. Or we both end here.” Their eyes meet. The answer comes soft: “Not this loop.” He tosses the chip up—the city’s feeds go dark, screens across stations flicker gray. At that breath, Major Saito leaps from shadows, badge glinting, firing a crack shot right at the pair breaking through the last blast doors.
Tension ticks as frames hold: Will Kyo escape or fall into the circuit’s own snare? Is Rina right to stay? Do Eyrus play by honor, or just for spoils? You wonder—if stakes shift now, can trust by blood mean real chance or is the next twist already in play?
The last shot hangs across the steel above. Lights wink and pause as though uncertain the show is done. No clear victor, not one claim yet earned.
