“Why do you seek old pain, Kaede? Will you follow every fading call?”

Ryo steps out, stone in hand. “Sis, it isn’t just for Grandma. The calling isn’t kind, it’s a test.” Kaede searches his face, pain and warmth there both. “Every year, someone’s lost. Maybe every era too.”
