Lost Login: Shadow Run of SYNTHIA
Synopsis: Virtual Punk Arc
June Sakai can’t shake off her draw to the game SynthWorld. That night, she picks up her headset. It feels heavier. The neon city loads in, gray static flickers on the edge of her vision. Her guide Takao spawns in. He grins: “You crash again, June? You’re glitchier than last patch.” But June can’t speak. She tries to log out but finds the system unresponsive.
Shirah, June’s classmate, warps in. She’s confused by June’s blank stare. Takao runs a quick scan. The message reads: ‘Soul-ID not found.’ Both stare at June’s avatar flashing odd code. Isn’t that unsettling? Would you risk help, knowing there’s no way out?
They aren’t alone much longer. A shadow, masked and tall, moves across the rooftop. It talks in broken code. June feels cold. Takao faces the glitch. “Are you the bug, or the worm?” he dares. No reply. The shadow drops code fragments. Each turns into a new bug in the system.
The city starts to fold, black squares eat away at rooftop billboards. Flight bots spark and fall. The skyline grows jagged, hurt. But a hidden message pulses in June’s vision: SAVE/SAVE/SAVE. At this late point, June starts to shout. Shirah gasps. That’s real voice, leaking through digital space? It sounds raw.
Have you seen someone fight against code? June tries. She wills her avatar through walls of hungry error, limbs flicker, hair twitching wrong. At each step, code glitches chase her. Shirah leaks tears—she’s full-on scared for her classmate. But deep in server underbelly, a voice calls out: “Find the Safe Room. June. Come to Echo Gate. Hurry, before your shell gives out.”
Time turns thick and slow. June sees geo-markers blink far at the city rim. Takao carries her pixel-self, dashing through flickering traffic bots while bugs eat their path from behind. Shirah pulls system logs, screams out file errors until her avatar destabilizes. Are they all about to freeze for good?
They reach an old gateway, all cracked… with a soft blue glow. Unknown script runs on the arch. Shadow bulks huge in pixel mist. June stands straight. She finds she can code with her mind directly. She shouts in hex: RESET. A spark. The shadow splits. Voice ripples throughout the world. She doesn’t want to end her story here, with friends at risk. The episode freezes as her finger closes on the gateway swarm. What will she find beyond the arch?
End on a frozen login screen: username flickers ‘JUNE_???‘ — new files uploading in the dark.
What might you have done, alone surrounded by bugs and strange voices? Next part: will June ever return home?
