Vertigo Skies: The Rogue Air Riders Arc
Episode Synopsis
Kaito Yanagi never dropped his dreams; he just switched them up. His first skateboard had the teeth marks to show it – months of dogs chasing him down alleyways, years before he picked up a helmet. Last he placed in the Neon City Street Games, they didn’t even bother hiding the sneers; a rural kid like Kaito shouldn’t stand a chance in a metropolis packed with prodigies and money. You ever get that itch, when the world tells you no? That’s how Kaito treats every wall and rail.
Kaito, sixteen, most awake under a moon shining over bedrock ledges, laced wheels tighter than ever, and found a spot over the waterfall district. Niina Sakurai, his fearless friend (self-dubbed ‘Film Queen’), matched his hours ten for ten, her cam always rolling. “You’re really doing this, summer boy?” she called as she checked the focus, glaring up at that terrace. Did he grin? You bet. The city buzzed through the concrete like static beneath their feet.
What’s his star for the night? A rooftop-to-rooftop gap, nineteen feet and full of doubts. Something no one else dares. Except… word’s got out. Next thing Kaito knew, the Air Riders show up: real sponsored goons led by slick-skater Daichi Mitsuda. Why’d Daichi have to act cool? “You drop off the ledge and land, Yonagi-boy, we might have a place for a street rat like you.” Daichi’s boys just laugh, but Niina keeps her finger on record. Kaito shrugs closer to the edge. Eyes below—Sky, glass, pavement.
Daichi ups the ante: around the corner sits Hikari Asano, rider, planted heroine, and Daichi’s former best shot at a title. She tries to warn Kaito, biting out, “It’s not just about tricks, it’s the risk you carry.” She tosses him a set of pro-brand knee pads, wishes him luck, but there’s heat in her gaze. What would you do in his shoes, take the safe line or the hard route, when the city’s whole edge is watching?
Atmosphere tightens. Mid-run, as Kaito narrows his mind, Daichi’s boys cross the grit path, swinging in sync trying to shake him. Niina’s voice blares on her old megaphone, “One chance! Like eating lightning up there, don’t blink!” Kaito feels the kick, wheels meet wind, and nights go blurry—in midair, a mis-thrown soda can nearly tags his head. Fake crowd pushes in, city police may be on the way. But Kaito finds balance, heart in his throat, legs locked. His board snaps the gap in record time.
This isn’t a victory lap, not yet. As he comes down awry, half-twisting, a supporting pipe under the landing rail creaks out of place. Kaito flares, then stuns the Air Riders with a late-foot restore. There’s murmurs from the edge—the city crew, the anonymous live stream fans—panic switches to cheers, then to battle cries.
But Daichi’s not pleased. Now it’s not about talent, it’s pride he has to guard. He bumps shoulders with Kaito, drops a whisper: “Next Friday. Kingscript. The real course. Stakes higher than cash. Winner leads the Air Riders at the pro cup.” Kaito freezes for a second. Niina zooms in for a reaction. Hikari stays a space away, an insider with outside hope. Situation’s changed: it’s not just Kaito’s shot, it’s Hikari’s standing too. Why don’t teams stick together when fortunes twist?”,
Later, Kaito tends ripped jeans on a vacant gutter. Niina shows the slow-mo replay – hair tousled, blood mingling dusk – screen burnt with city orange. “Nice save,” she whispers. Kaito almost laughs. Why do near falls spark real faith?
Cue closing beats: Daichi trains fierce, Hikari faces her old gear in a cramped shed, and Niina overlays found footage with new graffiti. Kaito, bathed in neon blue, studying rooftop lines across the skyline. Scene freezes just before sunrise – group text incoming, anonymous, reading only: ‘The course is closed. Reroute tonight or forget your seat.’
Would you risk the leap – and the alley politics that come with every rival watching? Next episode, it’s no show if you miss. Vertigo Skies stays spinning, none of them know who controls the course yet. Especially not Kaito. What would you bet?
