Arc Synopsis
Protagonist: Lys Varrin, a sharp girl with a wild red braid. She dreams of peace for her fallen homeland, Halewick. The Burnt Banner Kingdom rules her city by force. At each step, Lys faces hidden threats, but she won’t yield. Are you drawn to her struggle for revenge? Who deserves her trust now?
Halewick saw bitter kingdom wars. Each old palace casts long shadows. Now armies march beneath stone watchtowers, while smoke drifts from the dark glass towers. One spark would end a generation’s uneasy silence.
The Burnt Banner King, Morien, needs control. His soldiers curb the angry. Secretly, resistance groups plot their moves. Among them, Lys wants more than slashed banners—she wants to find her lost brother Rua, a tactician lost in the Last Crimson March.
New allies stand with Lys: Teren, who laughs like no war happened; Ela, whose magic might match her favor; Jaris, half outcast, always with a sly map.
The main story starts one night under a blood moon. Rogues whisper outside the broken West Gate. Lys listens at the edge of a ruined lane. “Now,” she whispers, “or he’ll never come back.”
Striking back seems mad. Up on the city terrace, a message flashes. Ela scolds, “Be quiet! Morien’s dogs catch sound in steel cups now.” Lys hides a smile. “Then let’s give them a show they can’t forget.”
Down below, Teren cracks a watchman’s lantern with a stone. Shadows flick and clash on dark walls. The city isn’t asleep. Voices echo through the lane. “Time runs through your hands, Lys,” Jaris mutters over his map. “Blood or stone—choose quick.” Does that choice feel simple, when everything was stolen?
The group pushes toward the Iron Hall. Guards block the west arch. Ela ties her midnight sash, eyes flashing. She mutters a five-word spell under her breath—lights flicker, guard boots slip on sudden ice. The thrill runs close to fear but not quite.
In the basement, Lys finds an old marking. It’s the emblem of Rua’s old unit. “There’s hope,” she gasps. She crouches down. Ela bites her lip but smiles. Teren grins, knuckles white. 
Sudden horns sound in the street above. Soldiers move fast, armor ringing on the old stair. Lys and Ela help the others duck behind fallen stone. Close by, guards stomp down in pairs. Lys breathes slow, hoping the dark is deep enough.
The group escapes into the scribes’ passage. Here, one false turn can spell death or capture. Lamps flicker, maps peel from damp stone. Ela hums as she trails a finger on a sign marked “Rua”. Does Lys have reason to hope? Or is the sign a bitter trick?
From a vent, the group sees the Great Hall set for a royal feast. Lys’s eyes linger on Morien at the top table. “My brother vanished for that—feasts for our pain.” Jaris points: near Morien sits a hooded shape, not one of Morien’s known lieutenants. Is Rua among Morien’s ranks now?
The group splits at crossroads below the palace. Teren heads left. Jaris takes the undercroft maze. Lys and Ela move up the eastern spire, faces tight, hearts pounding.
At the height, Lys finds not Rua but a lonely squire chained to a stone ring. The squire shares news: Rua lives, but not whole—some say king’s magic holds his mind on a knife edge. Lys can’t look away. Ela reads lines in every link of the chain.
Soldiers close in. You smell burnt oil, hear low voices. The sound feels wrong—an ambush glued tight by fear. Lys reaches for her blade. She asks, “Can you fight?” The squire’s grip on his spear suggests yes. 
Six guards round the scorch-lit corner. Ela steps ahead, raising words cold as iron. The air warps. The squire jumps into action, Teren appears through a hatch, staff whirling, Jaris shoves crates for cover.
One guard falls to a smothering spell; shields shudder as Lys knocks two heads together. Sparks fly at their heels; city dogs snarl below.
Does hunger or rage drive your next throw? Jaris hurls dust, whispering, “Rua taught me sharper tricks than kings ever could.” Hell breaks loose. Elas’s magic fails just as two fresh soldiers crash in. Will anyone get out safe? Is Rua alive, sane, or lost forever?
At the last, above rooftops rimmed by torchlight, Lys stares into the mud-dark sky. Across the tiled king’s way, someone stands—a tall charred figure in a worn red coat. “Rua?” Lys chokes out the word, kinsman’s bond fighting his stone gaze. 
He steps forward, iron blade bare, face hidden in tattered hood. Ela whispers, “That isn’t—” But hunger for hope claws. Guards race toward them both.
The episode ends with a sword high and Lys frozen, old echo of loyalty drowned beneath lifetimes of war.
