Their Shadowed Desks: The Catacomb Code Arc
Act 1: Hidden in Plain Sight
School’s always been simple for Yui Midorikawa. Top grades, swim club star, just trying to make her late dad proud. Or was, till one text let her know: ‘The Catacomb Club waits for the lost. Will you listen tonight?’ She’d laughed it off at first. Who isn’t curious at their second-year spring? I mean, what’s the wildest rumor you’ve ever heard about your teachers?
But the message kept showing up. Sticky notes behind history books. A mark chalked high over classroom 101. Then she hears it—her best friend Keita, always as bright with hope as her, swapped smiles in the crowded hall.
“Well, sounds made up, right?” Keita gives her his lopsided grin. “I bet the teachers made a spooky club before finals just to keep us nervous.”
But who keeps ignoring signs, really?
Act 2: Desks after Dark
Midweek, Yui can’t sleep. Why’s her teacher keep turning in from the same old staircase every day, when everyone else leaves at the normal gate? That night, she slips out—well, ok, almost falls right into the old Science hall. In the long blue shadows, she spots heads; it’s not students at all. It’s the last teachers she’d expect, bunched tight above a faded trapdoor.
“He’s got the book, sensei,” one whispers. “Tonight’s the night.”
Her heart almost thunders out of her chest. She starts down the stairs. Is someone watching her too?

Keita, tailing her without her knowing, bumps into her.
“Yui! Was this the secret club? I—oh.”
Below, an old storeroom. Papers thumbed yellow. Blueprints flapping like weak flags in the airflow from a big, strange vent. Markings on the wall spell out names, times—and schedules that don’t match any normal school term.
“Why’s your name there too?” Keita asks. She swallows. Hers is in bold chalk, bigger than the rest.
Act 3: Into the Catacombs
This school hid so much under fake tile. The teachers, masked now, march into a passage behind heating pipes. Keita records it all; Yui reads something etched into the wall: ‘We choose who will stay.’
They trail the group. The underground turns. She wants answers about her name, about another name she only barely remembers—her father’s, circled on a roster.
One teacher stops. Looks right past their hiding spot.
“We can’t turn back,” Keita tells her, voice shaking. “Trust me.”
Room after room shows off a timeline. Arguments echo: “If anyone finds us, what then?”
“Let the expenses fall.”
Last stretch: they spot the crowd again. The teachers—her own principal among them—all kneel around an old ledger, furrowing brows.
“Tonight,” the principal says, “the cost is a secret set free. Family, then fate.”
Was her late father part of this? Or did he try to stop what’s kept so deep here?
Yui reaches for the ledger—a frantic step. Papers spill; light snaps, dust rises. Who else is behind her now, breathing close? Is someone else down here too?

“Yui, we’ve gotta leave!” Keita whispers, but the door closes above.
They’re in darkness, voices closing in.
Are you ever sure you want all your answers? Would you give up the quiet world you knew?
Cliffhanger
Breaths freeze as a figure slips from shadow, key in hand—student, not teacher. Aya Hanabe, rumored dropout. Her accusing eyes settle on Yui.
“Welcome to the Club’s pledge, Midorikawa,” she cries. Door locked, secrets bursting for breath.
The light flickers—one wrong word and it may all fall out.
Did Yui inherit the real danger reserved for ‘chosen’ students alone?
Next: Will she trade her family’s secret for her own freedom? Who else will get swept under, as the hidden Catacomb code alters their fate forever?
