The Science Fair Gambit: Rivalry Ignites
Episode 4: The Science Fair Gambit: Rivalry Ignites
Kaito Amano, never late, runs across the tile floor. He halts at the classroom door, gasps, “Did I miss the teams?” His best friend, Yuuto, waves from the back. The seats are crowded. It’s the start of Tsubaki High’s most famous event.
Why is the whole school buzzing? The Science Fair. It’s more than grades this year. Public voting, too. Top winners might visit Tokyo’s famous robotics lab. Motivation is high. Kaito wants to see those labs. Is that enough to beat last year’s pride? Ever faced pressure from your own past?
They make teams. Not everyone plays fair. Minako, the vice president, is sugar sweet on top but always takes the best partners. Hana asks, “Are we inventing, or plotting war?” Yuuto snickers.
Kaito needs more friends for a team, but, “Looks like you’re captain, Amano!” Class clown Tatsuya pats his back, dropping wires onto the desk. Hana leans in. “Don’t mess this up or we’re doomed for PE cleanup duty,” she whispers.

After school, debate starts: a water-powered robot spider or safe snacks vending machine. Yuuto pushes his spider plan. Hana shakes her head. Teams echo through the halls. “It’s never just a simple fair,” Kaito muses. “You don’t say,” Hana sighs. Has your project group argued more than they built?
That night, Kaito runs numbers late into midnight. Minako’s team is using costly sensors from her dad’s shop. How do you win if the field isn’t fair? He wonders if grit is enough. We all want a level playing field, right?
The fair begins with laughter, coffee cans, even a flying drone from class C. During the show, Minako’s popular project draws lines. Kaito’s group pushes on as their spider robot leg falters.

Tense, Kaito whispers, “We’ll switch your motor—no panic.” For once, teamwork beats pride. Others cheer; Minako glances over, her face unreadable. Is a victory worth it if you’re alone at the end?
At judgment, the spider works! Vending snacks: still not quite right. There’s buzz after class about who voters liked more. Now Kaito waits for results when a note slips onto his desk. Hana reads it out: “Lab discovery tonight, after dark—rooftop. Come alone.”
Early in the next episode, Kaito stands atop the roof. The school below glows. Minako steps out, mystery in her voice. “If you loved science so much—why’d you nearly give up last spring?” she asks. Kaito freezes. The real test has nothing to do with robots after all.

Can Kaito choose between old ache and what calls him now? Isn’t this what growing up feels like—a wild blend of contests, classmates, hope and…secrets?
