Azure Map: The Phantom Island Voyage
Azure Map: The Phantom Island Voyage
Waves slap the ship as Kana, a brooding 17-year-old, stands at the bow, eyes fixed on the endless horizon. He tightens a crumpled, faded map. Skies are gray. The world says this route is cursed, but he isn’t one for simple stories. If you heard of an island hidden by mist—would you jump in and try to find it?
Kana has one goal: discover the truth about Sable Isle, the place marked in strange ink on his father’s lost charts. Every evening, he traces that route with a quiet rage. He never met his dad and never got answers from his mother. He needs to know what’s real. Crew chatter echoes around him: “Storms again tonight, huh?” whispers Aoi, his best friend, always with a sly smile and a grip on the rail. Together, they keep the focus tight. Most their crew joined for gold or stories. Kana sees only the finish line even if every mile is the hard road.
They pick up a stowaway: Yuto. His laughter is quick and soft but hides sharp edges. “Out here for shadows and monsters, or just running like me?” he asks. Kana bristles, silent, while Aoi snorts and claps Yuto on the back. “Just you wait. Wind gets worse and even Kana’ll crack a grin.”
Nights blur by on the sea. One after another, storms punish the wooden deck. Shadows move on the seventh night—at first, simple tricks of the fog. Smells of salt, wet ropes, and fear fill the lower deck as Suki, the ship’s mechanic, patches a leaking hull. “Next port, I’m done,” she says for the third time. She looks Kana in the eye, and something in his answer steadies her. He doesn’t promise safety. He never lies.
Panic hits with a shriek on the wind. Watchman Hano is missing, just his cloak snapped up the mast like dark luck flew in and wiped his name away. Aoi won’t accept it. She pulls Kana aside. “Fear makes fools,” she says, “Don’t sleep on that. Don’t you see this isn’t about the gold for most of us?” His answer is a near-whisper: “Sable will show us what’s real.”
After a tense day, shapes appear in the distance: an island draped in fog. Birds circle high above a sharp, white cliff. Yuto goes pale—“Told you! This isn’t normal land!” A storm flares, and waves toss the ship against jagged coral. Cables snap, and water pours in. They fight to keep the Blue Lantern afloat. Even Suki yells for channel orders she never gives. In minutes, their maps are gone and their ship limps through a fissure, just as the sky clears to cold moonlight.
On shore, silence. Gravestones scattered among broken ships. Who buried them? The crew spreads out. Kana’s hands shake as he finds a locket marked ‘KOSUKE’—his father. He opens it; inside, a faded photo and coordinates written in tiny text. Suddenly, footsteps crunch from the tree line. Shadows form real figures, glare sharp and silent, then rush the group. Aoi screams for backup, caught in a stranger’s grip. Kana locks eyes with an old man who looks like his mirror. Who are all these people?; Why did his map bring them to this one night? Has the past really returned, or is the real curse just beginning? You think you’d be scared?
The screen fades out as lightning rips overhead and Kana dives towards the approaching figure–not knowing if he’ll find the answers or lose everything before morning.
Did you ever chase something impossible just to get the truth? If so, maybe you’d step onto Sable Isle, too.
