Echoes Across the Hollow Divide
Have you ever wondered what lies beyond the last path on the world map? Our tale kicks off with Shiru, the only child in Driftwood Village who’s read every book in the town hall. He yearns for the odd places no one knows or even cares about.
His mentor, old Argo, listens as Shiru says, “I keep seeing blue lights in the forest. But they’re always gone when I look close.” Argo waves a hand. “Not all roads lead home, lad. Sometimes they send you back with more questions!”
But Shiru can’t let it go. He posts a strange request on the local board: “Looking for an exploration team. Map-makers, dreamers, and fools only.” By next dawn, Arin (wild fighter with too much charm), Lanna (healer who can’t stand silence), and small, sharp-eyed Kett (young prodigy cartographer) join at the old stone bridge. Each needs something. Are you wondering why Arin keeps two weapons? Or why Lanna isn’t at the winter festival like the rest?
Their first night brings worry. It’s not hard yet, but the sounds at dusk eat into them. Kett sketches quick lines, Arin paces. Lanna tunes a hand-held radio, and static rushes in. “We’ve not gone that far, but it feels…heavier out here,” she says. No answers yet.
Midway through thorny undergrowth, all four reach an old arch covered in runes they don’t know how to read. The air shifts. Shiru places his hand on the cold edge. A faint glow pulses, and a thin water line appears beneath — the map shows land, but here there’s only a dark gorge. Something calls from the far side.
Have you found map errors too? They whisper about Hollow Divide, the spot no one believes exists. Lanna pushes first, fingers crossed. “Do you want to see what happens next, or will you balk?” she grins. Next thing, each follows, one by one. On the other side, the ground shakes, and blue lights swirl near an old ruin.
But trouble kicks in fast. Odd, human-shaped shades dart between broken stones. Arin drops his pack, steps forward, voice low, “Back! Stay with the group!” Kett records the beings’ twitchy moves, sweating but smiling.
Conflict rattles everyone. Shiru debates: return home and keep the tale safe, or stay and dig deeper into Hollow Divide? Lanna reads a glyph with a voice not her own. Wind stirs. From within the largest stone, a pair of golden eyes open. “Who disturbs my echo?” the voice thrums.
Episode fades as our team stands at the edge of the ruins, facing the ruin spirit. As the dial on Lanna’s radio whirls, hints of a song reach her ears—notes she remembers from old Driftwood lullabies. The ground splits beneath Shiru’s feet. Will he fall, or grab the truth that’s trying to break free?
